New legislation covering CCTV in animal slaughterhouses is set to come in to force this year. The new rules, introduced by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, state that all abattoirs where live animals are present must install security cameras in an attempt to clamp down on mistreatment.
The new laws are expected to apply from April 2018, and owners of slaughterhouses will be given six months to comply with the new code.
As leading experts in CCTV technology, SECOM can help you find the right solution for your abattoir, ensuring full compliance with the upcoming regulations. For 30 years, we have designed, installed, and maintained CCTV systems across all market sectors, and we are confident we can work with you to design a system to meet your business needs.
The new government guidelines state that full CCTV coverage must be available in all areas where live animals are unloaded, kept, handled, stunned or killed.
At SECOM Plc, our experienced consultants can help design a bespoke system, and optimal camera locations to allow you to meet your requirements. Our state-of-the-art IP CCTV cameras have a resolution equivalent to that of a 1080p HD TV, 5x the resolution achievable with an analogue camera, making them particularly beneficial for evidential purposes.
Footage from your CCTV system will be accessible to official vets working for the Food Standards Agency. On request, it is compulsory for these officials to have unrestricted access to the last 90 days of recordings.
SECOM’s IP CCTV systems allow for central recording on a Network Video Recorder (NVR), offering extensive storage capacity. Images can be stored for the required 90-day period before being overwritten, along with varied programmable options.
