On Saturday 27th September 2014 Japan Matsuri (festival) returned to the heart of London for its sixth consecutive year, and its third year in the amazing location of Trafalgar Square. It is a massively anticipated event enabling growing numbers of Londoners to soak up various elements of Japanese culture.
The opening ceremony began at 11:00 on the main stage with an outstanding performance from the Taiko Drummers. This was soon followed by the opening speech from the Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Keiichi Hayashi, who welcomed and thanked everyone who made this year’s event possible. Hayashi was accompanied by the Chairman of The Executive Committee Japan Matsuri Keisaku “Sandy” Sano, MP Jeremy Hunt, and Deputy Mayor of London Victoria Borwick.
The theme of this year’s Japan Matsuri was ‘washoku’ (Japanese cuisine). There were many different stalls for friends, family and tourists to enjoy the Japanese food, music, martial arts, dance and much more.
SECOM volunteered to offer their support once again this year with UK Managing Director Mr. Minoru Takezawa, Yosuke Morishita (Corporate Planning), Paul Gillam (Key Response Officer) and David Williams (ARC Operator) proudly attending the event.
