SSAIB's objective remains the same

SSAIB's objective remains the same

With the increasing popularity of security systems and the raft of legislation and guideline changes that are currently going on in the industry, it is easy for end users to get confused.

For this reason, Geoff Tate, the chief executive of the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB), has offered some guidance and reassurance to those companies and property owners who make use of security devices and services in the UK.

Writing for IFSEC FIRE, he stated that SSAIB's role may be changing – moving from an inspectorate to a certification body – but its ultimate object remains familiar.

This, he said, is mainly to ensure that purchasers, specifiers, and end users of security systems and services, fire detection and alarm systems "have access to a pool of competent and professional providers of products and services".

He explained that there are other certification bodies, but end users should know that the groups work together in the development of new standards and regulation.
