Police in Lincolnshire have issued a warning after a spate of sneak-in burglaries in the region.
There have been a number of incidents such as this in recent weeks, whereby thieves are targeting residential properties during the warmer weather. They are believed to be entering homes through open doors and windows.
Within the last four weeks, there have been 20 offences in Lincoln alone, the Lincolnshire Echo reports.
Detective Inspector Suzanne Davies told the newspaper: "Criminals are getting in through unlocked doors and windows. We would urge people to really think about their security at night."
An effective way to do this is to install a CCTV system, which in addition to acting as a visible deterrent to burglars, will be able to provide the police with evidence they can use to track down the offender if they do gain access to a property.
External security lights can also serve to discourage potential robbers, while homeowners should attempt to ensure doors and windows are locked even during warm weather.
