Police urge people attending Christmas lights parties to stay safe

Police have advised people who plan on attending Christmas lights events to take steps that prevent them from being victims of crime.

Officers explained that the large crowds that are usually associated with the festive gatherings are ideal for pickpockets and there had already been a marked increased of these types of incidents in recent weeks, reports the Hemel Gazette.

Revellers in Hamel Hampstead are advised to stay within sight of security systems where they can.

Sergeant Adele Hopkin of the Tring Safer Neighbourhood team said: "There was one last year compared to nine this year so people should take care in crowded shops where there are lots of shelves and products and no CCTV cameras."

As well as being aware of surroundings, people were told to keep their bags zipped up and any valuables such as purses or wallets should be at the bottom or zipped in further compartments.
