4m European alarms to be connected to mobile networks by 2016

More than four million alarm systems will be connected to mobile phone networks in Europe by 2016, according to a new industry report.

The study by research company Berg Insight also found that the total number of tracking devices and wireless intruder alarm systems monitored at receiving centres will increase from 9.1 million in 2011 to 39.7 million by the end of 2016.

Many people are now becoming aware of the benefits of using mobile technology for property security, as it can help reduce the risk of international or accidental disruption to the monitoring.

Andre Malm, senior analyst at the group, said: "The penetration of monitored alarm systems has only reached about three per cent of all businesses and households in Europe."

He explained that alarm systems are becoming more popular to customers, as the scope of the systems expands to cover incidents such as fire, gas and water leaks.
