Residents install CCTV 'to make their street safer'

Residents of homes in Cheltenham have come together to raise funds for CCTV systems to protect their homes.

In the past few months, three cameras have been installed and this has already led to one burglar being captured red-handed, reports the Gloucestershire Echo.

Keiran Graham, 22, was sentenced to nine months for the offence after he pleaded guilty.

One neighbour, who did not want to be named, explained that he had resorted to installing CCTV because of a rising number of break-ins and thefts in the area.

"Ensuring our children feel safe in their own home is our top priority. We live in a nice area and work extremely hard to have what we got," he said.

Councillor Rob Garnham explained that everyone needs to take precautions when they are going out and residents should try to support police whenever possible to ensure that crime levels are reduced in the area.
