Ilkeston shops still waiting for CCTV

Local businesses in the Ilkeston area are still waiting for new CCTV systems to be installed - more than eight months after a review into the security measures across the borough was meant to be complete.

Early in 2013, a petition, signed by around 400 Kirk Hallam residents, was presented to Erewash Borough Council, which asked for a digital update to the old analogue cameras around the shops in Queen Elizabeth Way.

This was after a number of incidents were reported to the police, but despite the council stating that the review would be completed in May, no action has been taken, reports the Ilkeston Advertiser.

Campaigner Linda Frudd, who lives in Queen Elizabeth Way, said the shops were still getting trouble from time to time.

"This isn't going to change until there is some sort of perceived deterrent, namely a system that works because it is properly serviced and really up to date," she added.
