Grampian Police to target Christmas shoplifters

Grampian Police have become the latest constabulary in the UK to target shoplifters in the build-up to Christmas.

On December 20th and 21st , officers in uniform and plain clothes will be working with retail staff and security systems operators at outlets in Berryden and Kittybrewster to target those who may be there to steal.

Constable Ruth Simpson said: "By working in partnership in such a supportive way, the shops are sending an important message to any potential thieves that they will not sit idly by and tolerate their behaviour."

Police stated that there is a historic rise in the number of shoplifting offences seen in December and it can be attributed to a number of factors.

Officers explained some people succumb to peer pressure as motivation to steal items they cannot afford, while others take advantage of the fact that most shops are busier than normal to try get away with theft.
