Government updates riots report

Many commercial premises across London and the rest of the UK's cities decided to increase their security measures in the wake of last year's riots.

CCTV systems captured images of break-ins and violence all across the country and now the government has published an update to its Ending Gang and Youth Violence report.

The document outlines how the coalition will aim to make gang injunctions available for those under the age of 18, introduce a new offence of threatening with a knife in a public place and increase the maximum penalty for importation of firearms to life.

Theresa May, the home secretary, said that the UK can be proud of the progress it has made in the past 12 months.

According to the Guardian, burglary accounted for 62.2 per cent of the arrests police made in London during the riots, while the minimum cost exceeded £100 million.
