CYC to add CCTV to fibre network

CYC to add CCTV to fibre network

City of York Council (CYC) is adding more fibre networks to its existing infrastructure in an attempt to consolidate its CCTV systems network and greatly increase its efficiency.

This will mean that CYC will be in charge of the UK's biggest metro-fibre network and by adding CCTV to the footprint, the council hopes that it will bring greater flexibility and cost effectiveness.

It will also allow comprehensive safety improvements as the new CCTV network is set to feature more than 200 cameras all controlled in one, purpose built room in the council's West Office building.

James Alexander, leader of CYC commented: "We have worked hard over the last year to significantly up our game on digital infrastructure by working closely with private and public sector partners."

Greg Mesch, chief executive officer at CityFibre, added that setting up a CCTV system in this way is not only great for security, it can also help with ease traffic management resources and support emergency services.
