CCTV systems will be used as part of a crackdown on drivers who are illegally parking outside the main railway station in Stoke-on-Trent.
The cameras were already in place, but they will now be programmed to record the number plates of vehicles which are parked in the wrong place, reports The Sentinel.
It is a move that has been welcomed by local businesses.
Operations manager Greg Chawner at North Stafford Hotel said: "The parking situation for us is an absolute nightmare."
He explained that illegally-parked cars are often visitors' first impression of the city.
Hackney Carriage driver Ali Raza said the CCTV systems and the resultant fines will help stop drivers parking in the taxi rank that he and his fellow black cab drivers pay to use.
"This is the first time we have used CCTV cameras to tackle illegal parking [in Stoke]", said councillor Ruth Rosenau, cabinet member for transportation.
