CCTV upgrade 'great news for local community'

A new upgrade to a CCTV systems infrastructure has been hailed as a huge boost for the local community in Hambleton.

Councillors have invested in new control room equipment to help monitor the market towns of Northallerton, Thirsk, Bedale and Stokesley, reports Minister FM.

Tim Swales, portfolio holder for business and communities at the council, said the safety of the residents is paramount and this investment is "great" news.

"It is a valuable asset to our market towns, particularly in the markets and car parks and through this investment we can bring it bang up to date and help the police be more effective," he added.

The area now has an extensive security system, with 25 cameras in Northallerton, 11 in Thirsk, three in Bedale and five in Stokesley. Furthermore, there is a network of mobile units which can be deployed as the council needs to help boost short-term surveillance.
