CCTV systems to receive digital upgrade to aid police

A local community will see its old analogue CCTV systems be upgraded to newer digital ones in a bid to ensure that police will continue to have plenty of useable evidence in their investigations.

Almost £100,000 is being invested to help bring Hambleton's security systems up to date.

The Northern Echo reports that the existing CCTV control room was relocated from the Police Control Room in 2002, but continued to use the original 1995 control room equipment and since that time, the system has not been updated.

Hambleton District Councillor Tim Swales said: "At the present time, the equipment uses old-fashioned tapes and we have to run through a tape to get a still shot, which takes time.

He explained that when completed, the new system will just require a person to click on a laptop and they will be able to find what they need.

"The police will really benefit," Mr Swales added.
