CCTV leads to 11 arrests over Christmas period in Barry

The value of CCTV systems has been shown in Barry, where monitoring teams helped police make 11 arrests and four ASBO referrals in the two weeks to December 30th.

According to Barry & District News, The Vale Council's CCTV officers contacted the police on 46 occasions during the week ending December 23rd and on 22 occasions the following week.

Before the busy Christmas period, police all over the country were urging both residential and commercial property owners to be vigilant and take steps to improve their security measures and ensure that they were not a victim of crime.

CCTV was cited as a particularly effective way of deterring criminals who were looking to take advantage of busy shops and stores to commit their offences.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council CCTV Control Room is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by fully trained and licensed CCTV operators.
