Cambridgeshire Police roll out anti-shoplifting initiative

Cambridgeshire Police has become the latest force in the UK to target shoplifters this Christmas.

The constabulary will be increasing the number of patrols that officers carry out in a bid to combat the rise in shop thefts that have historically been seen in December.

Sergeant Will Davis explained that shoplifting is an issue during this time of the year, as stores get very busy and criminals feel they can go undetected.

"Thieves think they can get away with helping themselves to the stock, but we will have officers out in force as a deterrent and also to catch offenders," he added.

He added that retail firms will need to replace stock and invest in security systems.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary states that CCTV systems can be an effective and useful tool when it comes to crime prevention and companies should ensure that they are optimised by placing the cameras in the most useful positions.
