Business owners concerned about proposed lack of CCTV

Worried business owners, councillors and residents have asked Holbeach Parish Council to think again about its decision to cut funding for CCTV in the area.

The concerned parties have expressed their disappointment at the move, which has come about due to the local authority's need to cut £18,000 from its budget for 2013-14, reports the Spalding Guardian.

Dave Hudson, chairman of Holbeach Business Forum, has urged the council to keep the £5,500 it has already set aside for the local CCTV systems in a holding fund while talks develop. It is hoped that the Spalding and District Chamber of Commerce may be able to take over management of the scheme from the district council.

"It would be a worry for businesses if CCTV went from Holbeach because we feel secure in knowing there's a camera running, whether or not it’s being monitored 24 hours a day," said Mr Hudson.
