Bulk fuel thefts 'on the increase'

Petrol forecourts and haulage firms across the UK may want to invest in security systems, as bulk fuel thefts are on the rise.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation has recently released footage captured by CCTV, which shows thieves using an HGV lorry to steal more than 12,000 litres of diesel – worth £18,000 – from a service station in Ruthin.

According to the group, this type of crime is on the increase due to the rising cost of fuel in the UK.

The station's owner David Evans said that in more than five decades of working in the industry, this is the first time that this has ever happened to him.

"We received a delivery the day before, whether they knew about this I'm not too sure, but because of the delivery that's the amount of fuel that they had," he told the BBC.

North Wales Police said that anyone with infomation can call 101.
