Corporate social responsibility
Respect for our neighbours is an important part of our work.
At SECOM we are aware not only of our responsibility to our employees, but to the wider communities in which we work. We try to keep them informed and involved, and minimise the effect our business has on their daily lives.
We have a duty to the environment too, which we take very seriously. After all, our aim is to create a better, safer society.
Protecting the people
We constantly try to communicate to the public ways in which they can keep not only their property and belongings safe but themselves, family and friends too.
In order to help people feel safe and secure SECOM frequently provide many staff members and the public such as lone workers, local groups and Girl Guides with personal panic alarms. Small enough to fit on a key ring but loud enough to startle a stranger, these alarms are handy and easy to use and have helped many people young or old feel confident and secure, thus helping to keep our society a safer place.
SECOM fundraising events
Each year, SECOM holds a variety of different events in order to help raise valuable funds for worthy causes, as well as help boost team moral.
To date we have supported several organisations through sponsorship, charity days, raffles, corporate activities and customer events. All of which have helped raise funds and put a smile on people’s faces.
Throughout each year, our fundraising takes place via a range of events such as dress down days, cake sales, quizzes and other fun activities with all money raised going to charity. Our aim is to get our workforce to enjoy their involvement whilst highlighting the cause and the importance of the funds raised.

Regular charity fundraising
Here are some of the charities that SECOM supports on a regular basis:
Comic Relief
Comic Relief fund projects across the UK, Africa and throughout some of the world's poorest countries helping disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
Children in Need
Children in Need provide support to disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.
Jeans for Genes
Jeans for Genes provide funding for the research, care and support of children with genetic disorders.

Chosen charity
In addition, to our regular charity fundraising, the company also selects one ‘chosen charity’ that we support for a year or two where we aim to raise further funds through different events, such as our Christmas raffle and annual summer BBQ.
We invite our SECOM staff and their families to our summer BBQs; these are a great way to boost fundraising for our ‘chosen charity’. They incorporate several moneymaking activities including dress down days and quizzes plus plenty of good BBQ food. All of which help encourage more participants and keep everyone entertained, plus they promote social activity within the company.
Below is a list of our ‘chosen charities’ we have supported over the last few years.

2009 – 2010 The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign
The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign aim to raise £15m to provide Europe’s leading children and teenage cancer centre.
2007-2008 Helen & Douglas House
A hospice in Oxfordshire comprising of Helen House, which supports children from birth to age 18, and Douglas House, supporting those from 16 years and over.
Customer focused charity events
During 2008 we also supported a long standing customer with a private casino night called Lucky Strike Night. The event was organised to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
