Home Security Safety Tips

Safety first
In today's society, almost anyone can become a victim of crime.
Unfortunately, statistics show that people who have been targeted once are more likely to be targeted again.

SECOM are currently working with police in your area to provide expert advice on improving security and reducing crime. With this in mind, we've produced a quick-reference checklist to help protect you and your family.

Safety checklist
  • Install a burglar alarm and make sure it is visible.
  • Always fit good quality locks on doors and windows, a burglar is less likely to break in if they have to smash a window.
  • If you go out even for a short time, make sure you lock up.
  • Always keep keys away from windows and doors.
  • Fit a 'spy hole' and chain to your door so you can see/hear who is calling.
  • If you can get into your house without keys, so can a burglar.
  • Put timer switches on your TV and lights so it looks like you are at home when you're out.
  • Visible burglar alarms, locks/grilles and security lighting are excellent deterrents.
  • Don't forget to cancel any deliveries such as milk and papers when you go on holiday.
  • If you're not going to be around for several days, ask a friend or neighbour to empty your postbox.
